Remembering CSBA President Betty Jo Toccoli

As you may have been aware, our dear friend Betty Jo Toccoli passed away on June 15th after some personal health challenges.

Betty Jo was truly one of the most ardent and tireless small business leaders our state had ever witnessed. For decades, Betty Jo made great change for her members, our members, and all of the Main Street community.

We organized a Celebration of Life in memory of Betty Jo on Tuesday, September 12th at the Sutter Club in downtown Sacramento near the State Capitol. Our goal was to spend that time remembering our wonderful friend and, as she would have wanted, spending time with one another laughing, smiling, and being there for all small businesses.

Below, you will find a curated selection of photos and videos from our Celebration of Life for Betty Jo Toccoli. Each image and clip is a testament to the love, admiration, and respect we all hold for Betty Jo.

Thanks to those who helped support, plan and attend this very special event honoring this extraordinary small business leader, defender and friend.

Messages

A message from Betty Jo’s Granddaughter, Samantha Turnbull:

I want to express my gratitude for the many years and many friendships my grandma made over the years. For my entire life, small business advocacy was at the heart of everything my grandma did. She loved connecting with small business owners and brainstorming how to solve the issues they faced. The friends she made while running CSBA were more like family than friends to her. We rest comforted in the fact she has been reunited with my grandpa, my mom, her sister, Gwen Moore, Aubry Stone, and so many others that passed before her. Thank you all for taking the time to honor her sacrifices and dedication.

A message from Mike Hedges, Chairman for CA Small Business Association:

It is with profound sadness and deep regret that CSBA has lost our beloved founding member, Mrs. Betty Jo Toccoli. She was a visionary leader, a passionate advocate, and a generous mentor who dedicated her life to the advancement of our organization and its mission. A nonpartisan voice that advocated for small business rigorously and respected by legislators throughout the state.

Betty Jo touched my heart over a decade ago when I joined CSBA’s board of directors and quickly became someone I was proud to call a close friend.
Her knowledge, the decades of relationships she maintained with not only small business owners in the State of California, but legislators and community leaders alike is nothing less than remarkable!

Betty Jo’s Love for that small business owner and her passion for the legislative process was the perfect combination as CSBA’s founder.

Betty Jo has many friends and that is reflected by looking around at all of you that have come to celebrate her work, her passions, her advocacy, her life.

On behalf of the board of directors and the entire organization we would like to express our gratitude to John Kabateck for honoring Betty Jo as she respected you personally, professionally, and always referred to you as her friend and a friend of CSBA.

We will honor her memory by continuing her vision and upholding her values in everything we do.
